American Football Simulator, Distribution 2012.2

American Football Simulator version 2012.2 is ready to be released. You may have noticed that I never released 2012.1. This was due to me mulling around whether or not I wanted to... I was hesitant because of the Sim League I run with the engine, and I felt that the team owners could download the code & get an unfair advantage by getting revealed Player rankings, simulation formulas, etc. But then I figured, to hell with it, I'm always tweaking Player rankings anyway. If they find this, more power to 'em.

Change Log

2012.2 Changes
  • Updated rosters for the 2012 NFL season up to Week 5.
  • New Fun Teams were added.
  • Added new team statistics in Statistics exports and Season mode.
    • “Net Points” which is basically Points – Points allowed. This was previously kept track of, but was not displayed. It can now be found under a team's General Statistics.
    • “Streak” which keeps track of a team's current streak. A winning streak will have a W before it, losing streaks will have an L, and tie streaks will have a T. Note: Streaks as a statistics have a minor bug that when merging exported stats, if the team you are merging second is multiple games, the winning Streak may be inaccurate.
  • Small GUI improvements.
    • Moved “Turnovers” from General statistics to Defensive statistics.
    • Moved “Takeaways” from General statistics to Offensive statistics.
  • Updated this help document since it was getting very outdated.
  • Cleaned up some code by removing outdated & unused methods.
2012.1 Changes
  • Updated rosters for the end of the 2011 NFL season and the 2012 NFL Draft.
  • Added the 2012 schedule in Season mode.
  • Added Two-minute warning. It is automatically disabled if a Quarter is less than two minutes due to the Time Config setting.
  • Leagues are now a fully functional feature. It has its own folder within the Data folder, and one may now Load and Save Leagues when starting a Season using Custom Teams. One does not have to be in Debug mode now to load Leagues.
  • Added a few new statistics for players.
    • “Tackles for loss” stat for Defensive players (when a player tackles a player behind the line of scrimmage, but isn't a sack).
    • “Touchbacks” for Kickers (when the Kicker forces a touchback on a Kickoff).
    • “In 20” for Punters (when the Punter pins the opposing team inside their own 20).
    • “Pancakes” for Offensive linemen (awarded for extraordinary blocks on both running & passing plays).
  • Added a few new Configuration options.
    • “Conversion Yardline”: Sets the yardline in which extra point and two-point conversion attempts are attempted. This defaults to 2, which is NFL rules. However, in college football, this is 3. In the CFL, it is 5.
    • “Max Play Time”: Allows you to specify (in seconds) the maximum time a team can wait until snapping the next play. The default for this setting is 40 seconds.
    • “Two-Minute Warning”: Option to turn off the new Two-minute Warning game rule. It is enabled by default.
    • “Enable Overtime”: Enable or disable overtime for games, resulting in a tie in games with a tied score at the end. Games that must have an outcome will ignore this setting (like Playoff games, or games with Allow Ties set to off). This defaults to enabled.
    • “Default Stadium”: When enabled, plays all games at a neutral indoor site, negating all homefield advantage and weather. It defaults to disabled.
    • “Automatic Export” - If enabled, all games will automatically Export stats to the “Exported Stats/Automatic” folder. They are cumulative, if a team with the same name is already there, it will automatically merge the files. This may drastically increase Prediction & Season time on slower computers, however, so it defaults to disabled.
    • “Retired Free Agents” and “Retired FA Coaches”: Allows Players and Coaches in the Retired folder to be drafted in Season Draft (if Free Agents are enabled to be drafted). Added a new folder in the Player and Coach folders, “Other”, which can be used for Players that you do not want to appear in Drafts.
    • “Prediction Season”: Games in a season will use a Prediction instead of a single game to determine rules. This will take a lot of time, but allows you to predict an entire season.
    • “Prediction Season Accuracy”: Lets you set how many games are simulated for the Prediction for each game. For example, if set to 100 (the default), each game is simulated 100 times and the average scores of the game are used.
    • “Save Season Games”: Instead of an option in Season Mode menu, I decided to move it here, since often the same computer will always use one or the other.
  • Small tweaks to the Simulation engine.
    • Mobile Quarterbacks have a slightly better chance to scramble.
    • Receiving Fullbacks now slightly increase overall Completion chance.
    • Tweaked the time in-between plays to be more realistic. There should be slightly less plays in a game as a result, since time passed is slightly higher.
    • Improved the play selection AI.
    • When an offense under AI control goes into “desperation mode” in the 4th quarter is now slightly dependent on Offensive Aggression (Aggressive offenses will go into desperation mode earlier).
    • Two-point conversions now actually run a play instead of using a Percentage to determine success. For example, it will now say “Runningback stuffed on two-point conversion attempt!” or “Runningback rushes for two-point conversion!”.
    • Changed the default Home-field Mod to 0.25 because 0.5 was sometimes too high of a modifier.
  • Small GUI improvements.
    • Renamed “Save Team” option to “Save Team As…” while making a new “Save Team” option which simply saves the loaded team.
    • Added a “Clear Team” option under “Edit”, which will remove all players and coaches from the team.
    • Added “Team Progression” option under Edit menu. This feature will progress all starting players on a team’s roster at the same time by inputting years, wins, whether the team made the Playoffs, and whether the team was last in the division. “Percentile” will be that player’s “Rank”.
      • If in debug mode, you can exclude the Quarterback (personal use reasons).
      • If in debug mode, you can view Overall progression changes in the console.
    • Added “Grudge Match” option in Game Center dialog, to easily re-play games with a click of the button.
    • In Season Drafts, there is now an option to see “All Players”. This was a requested feature to see the best players (not Coaches) available, regardless of Position (although the order is weighted by Position... For example, QB is valued more than K).
    • Added “eye-candy” messages to the Field graphic while Watching or Playing a game. They are triggered when a team scores, or a turnover occurs. They use the team's colors who triggered the message.
    • At the end of Season mode, teams in the LastSeason folder will now have their Records reflect their record in that season (if you open the team before the season's end, the record will not be changed).
    • Added “GS” (Games Started) to each player in “Load Exported Stats”. In case a player is changed, it will keep track of how many games that player has played.
  • Added a few new Debug features.
    • “Clean-Up Folders”: will delete all files in the Data folder (intended for release purposes, be careful with using!).
    • “Get Current Thread Number”: will display in the console all open threads (for chasing memory leaks).
    • “Get Rookie List”: Will look in the Data/Players/Rookies folder and display all Rookies… nothing too special here, but useful for certain things.
    • “Clear for New Season”: A method I wrote specifically for my Sim League on Footballsfuture.com; it is like the “Clear Team” method except it sets all players and coaches to 80 for each stat and resets Record to 0-0.
    • “Update NFL Players”: A function that checks all players on that team if there is a corresponding NFL player with the same name (from teams in the NFL folder or players in the Free Agent folder), and sets their attributes to that player.
    • “Clipboard Copy” in Load Exported Stats: Copies the team's stats to the clipboard. I added this for personal use reasons (my Sim League).
    • While in Debug mode, one can Load a team while in Season mode GUI, even in mid-season.
    • While in Debug mode, when playing or viewing games, one has the option to enter a Game Debug dialog with the ability to edit the following game data:
      • Time remaining (in seconds)
      • Yard line
      • Down & distance
      • Team scores
  • Several bug fixes.
    • Fixed the 0 seed bug (see Easter Eggs, below).
    • Fixed an elusive bug in which a team's Custom Philosophies would seemingly be randomly overwritten.
    • Fixed a bug where plays would sometimes take more than Max Play Time.
    • Fixed a bug in that if the Field Goal Points was set to 0, teams would infinitely try Field goals until they miss in Overtime. This resulted in such games going on forever for games that disallowed ties, like playoff games.
    • To go with the previous fix, games with disallowed ties are now capped at 100 overtime quarters. After that, the team with the most overall yards will be declared the winner (unlikely yardage ties going to the home team).
    • Removed the “Season Loop” config option due to the bugs it caused. It won’t likely be re-added but still exists in the source code as a static variable in FootballSimulatorGUI if you really want to still use it.
    • Fixed a bug where the max Kick return was 100 yards. This made Kick returns starting in the endzone impossible to be returned for a touchdown.
    • Fixed a bug where the “minimum possible elapsed time” of a passing play was too high.
    • Fixed a bug in which a strip sack (a sack in which a fumble is also forced) awarded 2 tackles instead of 1.
    • Fixed a bug in which the Net Punt stat was sometimes calculated wrong when a Punt is kicked out of bounds.
    • Fixed a bug in the simulation engine where a few minor RNG checks did not use the game's Random instance. This rarely caused games with the same Seed have different results.
    • Fixed a bug that caused some interceptions to not be logged to the Game Log file.
    • Fixed a minor bug where the incorrect time would show near the end of a Quarter while Watching or Playing a game.
    • Fixed a minor bug in Season draft where players with a very long name (like Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie) would cause rows to go missing (pushing them off-screen).
    • Fixed a minor bug in which a single space would appear before a Kick Return Touchdown in both the Game Viewer and Game Logs.
    • Fixed a minor bug in which Kickers had incorrect formatting in their stats.
  • Added a few “Easter eggs” in the Simulation engine, which can be triggered by specific seeds. Here’s a list for curious people who don’t feel like digging through the source:
    • 0 – Not really an easter egg, but a check that should’ve been added when I implemented XorShiftRandom. Basically, XorShiftRandom doesn’t work with a seed of 0, so it sets the seed to “Zero” instead.
    • “0, please” – Well, if you REALLY want a seed of 0…
    • “International Game” – Ugh… It really sucks when your team gets a “home” International game, does it not?
    • “TEBOW TIME” – Tebowmania is sweeping the nation! This wouldn’t be a bad seed to use if Tim Tebow happens to be your starting Quarterback…
    • “Ryan Leaf” – Greatest bust ever, according to most people… What if every Quarterback was as bad as him?
    • “Bountygate” – Being paid to injure people, hell yeah! Lets rough some people up.
    • “GOAT” – Everyone has their own opinions, but just who is the greatest Passer of all time? According to me?
    • “ITS OVER 9000!” – Take a wild guess at what this one does…
    • “I hate Mondays.” – Who doesn’t? They are by far the longest day of the week…
    • “Don't kick to Hester!” - Wise advice to any Kicker or Punter.

Pikachu Genocide: Duel Game

Gotta kill 'em all!

Introduction

Most of my followers on Youtube will like this post. After promising to do so years ago, I finally got around to editing the "Anti-Pikachu" game I made for school, displayed below, into a release version:

Two things differ from the demo in the above video. First, the above demo was of the single-player version, in which players simply shoot Pikachus as they go across the screen. However, I modified the project into a 2-player game for a later assignment in the same class and unfortunately, I could no longer locate the 1-player version of the game. Also, I decided I wanted to release a version which used Keyboard controls rather than Joystick, since few people have two Joysticks available.

The Game

Do you hate Pikachu? Well then, it's time for you to become an official Pikachu hunter! Pikachu Genocide is a simple two-player game, written in Java, in which rival Pikachu hunters fight to be considered the best Pikachu hunter of all time! Protect your turf by slaying the Pikachus (and perhaps a few other Pokemon who try to invade) while buying power-ups and other Pokemon to invade your opponent! The last man standing wins.
Screenshot of the gameplay.

The goal is to kill all the Pokemon that are running left to right on your side of the screen before they escape. If they manage to escape, you lose a life! Meanwhile, you can buy power-ups, extra ammo, or even send Pokemon to the opponent's side with the money you earn for each kill. The goal of the game is to reduce your opponent's Lives to 0, while staying alive yourself!

Installation

  1. Because Pikachu Genocide is written in Java, if you don't already have it, download the latest Java Runtimes here.
  2. Extract the Pikachu Genocide.zip file to the location you wish to put the game.
  3. You should be able to run "RunMe.jar" in the Pikachu Genocide main directory (Jar is the Java equivalent of an Exe). You can also make a shortcut to this file and use the provided icon in that folder.
  4. If RunMe.jar doesn't work, try running "DebugMode.bat" instead.
  5. If you have any other problems, feel free to contact me at timothyjsharpe@yahoo.com.
Controls

As mentioned above, I scrapped the Joystick controls and enabled Keyboard controls for this release version. Below are the controls for each player:

ACTION Player One Player Two
Aim Up Up Arrow E key
Aim Down Down Arrow D key
Aim Left Left Arrow S key
Aim Right Right Arrow F key
Fire Gun Ctrl key Z key

To buy a power up, simply move your cross-hair to the corresponding button on the top of your screen, and fire on it.

Player Values

Each player has the following:

LIVES: At the beginning of the game, your Lives start at 5. When an enemy Pokemon goes unkilled, you lose 1 Life! When you reach 0, you lose the game!

CASH: You get cash by killing enemy Pokemon! Spend this cash on Power-ups! You start with $10. Do with it what you will.

AMMO: Your ammo starts at 20 and regenerates very slowly, so use it wisely! It regenerates slightly slower than the number of Pikachus that automatically spawn, so don't forget to stock up on Ammo during play!

Power Ups

Below is all the power ups players can buy:

AMMO ($1): Running low on Ammo? No matter! Here you can buy a clip of 5 rounds for a mere $1.

EXTRA LIFE ($10): Let's face it... at some point, a Pokemon is going to sneak by, despite your ace skills! Good thing you can buy an extra life here for a mere $10.

NUKE ($20): So... the enemy thought they could send a massive attack force to overwhelm you, did they? Luckily, you have a trick up your sleeve. The nuke is the most powerful weapon in your arsenal, and will kill all Pokemon on your screen instantly. It has a high cost, however, so use it only when you need it!

Below is the different Pokemon you can send at your opponent:

PIKACHU ($2): Attempt to give your opponent problems by giving them too many enemies to handle! Use this to send an extra Pikachu at them!

RAICHU ($4): Pikachu's evolved form is a bit tougher... not that it takes much to be tougher than a puny Pikachu. These fat orange rats will take two hits to kill!

PONYTA ($6): Ponyta is a really fast Pokemon! It moves at nearly double the speed that Pikachu does, making it quite annoying. It costs three times as much, however.

BLISSEY ($6): This fat pink Pokemon is a real pain! At least you can do is make it a pain for your opponent! These bad girls take four shots to take down, making them the sturdiest attackers in the game.

MACHOP ($6): Machop is much stronger than the ordinary Pikachu! When Machop escapes your opponent, he takes two lives instead of one!

Conclusion

So what are you waiting for, Pikachu hunters? Download below, grab a friend, and send some Pikachus to hell. ;)

American Football Simulator, Distribution 2011.3

NOTICE: This version of the AFS is OUTDATED. Please look for the new version at thekillernacho.blogspot.com under the "American Football Simulator" label.

American Football Simulator version 2011.3 is ready to be released. As usual, there is a lot of minor new additions as well as fixes to the previous (now outdated) 2011.2 version. Below is the completed changelog. What are you waiting for? Download the complete application & source code at the bottom of this post!

2011.3 Changes
  • New Configuration settings:
    • “Coach Mod”, which affects how much coaches influence players. The higher it is, the more the Coach affects. If set to 0, coaches affect no players. (Default: 1)
    • “Play Selection Mod” which influences AI play selection, can be positive or negative. If positive, running plays will be more frequent. If negative, passing plays will be more frequent. (Default: 0)
    • “Player Decay” is a double value that affects how quickly players get “worn down”. Recommended to be set to 0 if game Time is very large. (Default: 1.0)
    • “Season Loop” is a Season config setting. It will cause the schedule to “loop”. For example, if set to 2, each team will play its schedule twice, causing a 32-game (34-week) season. (Default: 1)
    • “Draft AI” is a constant that determines Season Draft's AI. The larger the number, the weaker the AI. (Default: 15)
  • Games can now be played in a Stadium of another team. To do this, in the New Game menu, select “Custom Field” under “Stadium”. Once other settings are selected, hit “Begin Game”, and you will be asked to load the team which contains the Stadium you want to play in. For example, if you wanted to play a game at Arrowhead Stadium, load the Kansas City Chiefs.
    • These games will act as “No Advantage” games for the home team. This means they will not get homefield advantage while playing.
    • In a Default 2011 season schedule, National games are added. (CHI@TB at Wimbley Field, WAS@BUF at the Rogers Centre). Also, the Super Bowl will be played in Lucas Oil Stadium. This will only occur if doing a 2011 schedule season with default teams. Did not add this to 2010 or 2009 schedules, but will likely add it to 2012 schedule.
  • When playing a game, you can have the AI select your play for you by clicking “Auto-Select”.
  • When getting Game Predictions, one can now select how accurate the Prediction (before, it always simulated 1,000 games). Very accurate predictions can take a long time, however, since the AFS simulates a lot of games (10,000 games for the most accurate).
  • Increased AI in drafts, play selection.
  • Season Drafts now will ask the user if they wish to include Free Agent players & coaches.
  • Changed NFL2011 folder to simply NFL, re-added older season schedules to Season Mode (however, it will use 2011 rosters unless otherwise specified).
  • Updated rosters for Week 11 in the NFL (does not include injuries).
  • New Fun Teams added.
  • Added a “Retired” folder for Players and Coaches to store Player and Coach files who are no longer in the NFL.
  • A number of small bugfixes / roster fixes.
  • Updated the simulation engine slightly for more accurate simulations.
  • Some GUI improvements.
    • Organized Configuration menu better.
    • While playing / watching a game, you can now view current game stats by clicking “Game Stats” button. Previously, you had to wait until the game was over to see the game's stats.
    • New season draft speed values.
  • League test feature ... While in debug mode, one can “Load League” while selecting Custom Teams for a season. You will be asked for a League File (.lea). Currently, there is no way to save League files (hense, it is a test feature) but you can create them manually. To manually create a League file, create a new text file with an .lea extension, placing each team path you want to be in the league on each line (32 teams, every 4 teams are in a division, every 16 teams are in a conference). For an example on how to do this, see “Data\Teams\Fun Teams\Fun Season.lea”.
Installation

1. Because the AFS is written in Java, you will need to make sure you have the most recent Java Runtimes installed on your computer here.
2. Extract the zip file to where you want the AFS to be installed.
3. You should be able to run the AFS simply by running "RunMe.jar" in the AFS's main directory. Also, if you want to create a shortcut, create a shortcut to this file.

American Football Simulator, Distribution 2011.2

NOTICE: This version of the AFS is OUTDATED. Please look for the new version at thekillernacho.blogspot.com under the "American Football Simulator" label.

Hello there, everyone! Its time for another distribution for the AFS 2011. This version's packed with new features, and improvements. Here's the complete list of added goodies:

2011.2 Changes
  • Predictions made in Game Center now gives more detailed information about averages (Prediction mode simulates 1,000 games).
  • Game Center updated to include Play by Play tab. Before, you had to open Game doc to get the Play by Play.
  • Updated “Play” mode to include new plays. Plays are now actual plays, and should be more realistic in simulation (no more 2 yard Hail Marys). Also, when you play a game, each team gets a “Coach Rating” (viewable on the Game Center after the game) which is a positive or negative number reflecting your OFFENSIVE playcalling (how well you can predict your opponent). The opponent's number can be used to see your defensive playcalling.
  • Simulation engine updated for more accurate simulations.
  • New season mode – Season Draft. This mode allows you to run a season using drafted teams. One can either use the 2011 rosters for this (default) or draft using Custom or Random teams. Players in the Free Agent folder are INCLUDED in this draft (when not using Random). If you do not want these Free Agents included, either rename the folder or delete all files in that folder.
  • Season mode keeps tracks a few new statistics... Punts, Punts forced, Points / Points allowed per Quarter.
  • New stat added for players, Agility. Agility is used by Runningbacks to avoid tacklers (Break Tackle breaks tackles, in contrast). Agility is important for Runningbacks to break off big gains. Agility is also used by Kick / Punt returners (this replaces the Catching stat from being used).
  • The AFS root directory is significantly changed. The root directory only contains source code and executable files now. All other files the AFS needs can be found in AppData folder (it is strongly recommended you do not mess with this folder!). Data folder contains folders to store Teams, Players, Coaches, Exported Stats, and Logs (the AFS will use these folders by default). Documentation folder contains AFS documentation (like this file). Graphics folder contains endzone and logo folder for teams. Place endzone and logo images in these folders (with the same name as the team you want to assign them to).
  • Several small GUI improvements.
  • Removed the NFL2010 folder due to it being outdated.
  • Added new Fun teams. Also added UFL teams (for fun).
  • Combined the Blocking and Run Blocking stat into a single stat, Blocking. Pass Blocking is renamed to Pass Protection.
  • Updated rosters for latest off-season changes, new player rankings, and Agility.
Installation

Just a reminder.
4. If this doesn't work, try running "DebugMode.bat".

American Football Simulator, Distribution 2011.1

NOTICE: This version of the AFS is OUTDATED. Please look for the new version at thekillernacho.blogspot.com under the "American Football Simulator" label.

First release of 2011. Have plenty of updates here. I hope everyone appreciates the fruits of my labor!

2011.1 Changes
  • Tweaked simulation engine for more realistic simulations and balancing issues.
  • Coaches can now increase Player stats slightly in a game for high positional coaching.
·        Implemented the 3-4 defense as a Coaching Philosophy completely determined by the Defensive Coordinator. This allows a team to play three defensive linemen and four linebackers on a starting roster.
·        Removed the Special Teams Unit player in favor of a new Coach, the Special Teams Coordinator. The part of the game where the Special Teams Unit affected are now directly affected by the ST Coordinator. In addition, the ST Coordinator gives boosts to the Kicker, Punter, and K/P Returner.
·        New stat for Players, Acceleration, mainly for Wide receivers. It does the same thing that Concentration used to do for Wide receivers. Now, like all other positions, Concentration's main purpose for Wide receivers is to avoid turnovers.
·        Added an “Edit Config” option under File, and a config file in the main AFS folder. These global configurations alter the Simulation engine directly, altering the rules or modifiers.
◦        Kickoff Yardline: The yardline in which kickoffs are made. This was the main reason behind the Config change, since the NFL changed its rules to be from the 35 Yardline instead of the 30. Should be within 1-99.
◦        Touchback Yardline: The yardline in which Touchbacks are moved up to. Should be within 1-99.
◦        To Go: The amount of yards a team must go for a First Down. Should be a positive integer.
◦        Downs: The amount of downs a team gets before a change of possession. Should be a positive integer.
◦        Time: The time in seconds that a game lasts. Quarters are proportional to this value (each is ¼ of the time), Overtime included. This means a larger Time setting will also make Overtime longer! Should be a positive integer.
◦        Points: You can set the number of points a team receives for different scoring opportunities here. Should be an integer. Could be a negative integer, but that would be silly.
◦        Modifiers: There are four additional modifiers; Pass Mod, Run Mod, Kick Mod, and Home Mod. These are not gameplay rules but rather modifiers that alter the simulation engine. Pass, Run, and Kick mods alter both teams the effectiveness of that particular part of the game. Home Mod is how much of a “home-field advantage” the home team gets. You may set this value to any positive or negative decimal. Positive numbers gives a boost, negative numbers give it a penalty. 0 means no additional modification.
·        Values that were previously 1-99 in range have now been expanded to 0-100. Ratings of 100 are by default only given to players who are known to be “Elite” in that area for their position.
·        New values added to Players, Teams, and Coaches for a possible Franchise mode.
◦        Players & Coaches now have a set Salary. It includes yearly salary (in thousands) as well as Expiration year.
◦        Players gain a “Year Entered” stat and a “Draft” stat, which keeps track of the year they entered the league and their draft status. Any player drafted after the 3rd round is considered to be a 4th round draft choice.
◦        Players gain a “Rank” stat for salary-calculating purposes. It keeps track of now well the player has performed in the league.
◦        Players gain a “Potential” stat that affects player advancement.
◦        Teams gain a “Salary Cap” stat, which adds up all salaries of players and coaches. The maximum is $150 million dollars / Year.
·        Season mode now keeps track of five new Statistics: Touchdowns Allowed, Field Goals Allowed, Return TDs Allowed, Defensive TDs Allowed, and Safeties Allowed.
·        Added the “Retractable Roof” stadium type. It will act as a Dome in extreme weather, Turf otherwise.
·        Application can now calculate player “Type” based on the player's stats to quickly gage what kind of player he is. For example, a Quarterback can be considered a “Scrambling”, “Pocket”, or “Field-general” Quarterback. You can view Player type in the Edit Player dialog.
·        Several GUI improvements.
·        Added a “Free Agent” sub-folder in the Players and Coaches folder to store default free-agents.
·        Added a “Draft” sub-folder in the Players folder to store projected Draft prospects the following season (in the 2011 version, this means the 2011 draft).
·        Populate Folders feature now produces a list of Total Offense, Total Defense, and Total Special Teams ratings in the Output file.
·        A Quarterback's rushing yards and rushing touchdowns are now slightly less valued when calculating Game MVP and determining Quarterback rank in Season mode.
·        Slightly changed how Overall Offense and Defense are calculated.
·        Several minor bug fixes.
·        Application now uses NFL2011 as its main team folder. Season mode updated to include the 2011 schedule.
·        Updated rosters in the NFL2011 folder for the 2011 NFL season. Also, slight changes to 2010 rosters dependent on 2010 playoffs and Engine changes.

American Football Simulator, Distribution 2010.5

NOTICE: This version of the AFS is OUTDATED. Please look for the new version at thekillernacho.blogspot.com under the "American Football Simulator" label.

Link to the original post about the AMS

Since the 2010 NFL regular season is concluded, I intend this release to be the final release of the American Football Simulator for 2010. I have fixed most of the bugs myself and others have found, as well as finished polishing its current features exactly the way I intended them. In a lot of ways, this 2010.5 distribution is the "complete" 2010 distribution, with major upgrades and major new features being saved for the 2011 version. I spent a lot of time during my Winter break preparing this distribution, making sure everything was perfect. I hope you all enjoy the fruits of my labor. Something else that may interest some is that I'm looking into porting this application to the Android phone. This may be completed for the 2010 version if I have enough time. Stay tuned for that.

Changes in the 2010.5 Distribution:
  • Tweaked simulation engine for more realistic simulations and balancing issues:
    • Mobile QBs were nerfed slightly. Speed no longer has a direct affect on completion accuracy.
    • Concentration now most important stat for QBs to avoid interceptions.
    • The offensive line, defensive line, and wide receivers are now more important in the passing game.
    • Rushing is slightly better and more consistent.
    • Increased variability dependent on players.
  • New Coaching stat: Defensive Priority. Affects whether defenses focus on run or pass. High value will focus on run, low value will focus on pass. Affects effectiveness slightly (like Aggression).
  • Changed the way defensive stats are awarded for more realistic statistics.
  • Shuffled Teams season mode now shuffles coaches too, not just players.
  • Split up Secondary stats in Season mode to Cornerback and Safety and Runningback stats into Runningback and Fullback, for convenience.
  • Changed the file naming format of the Populate Folders feature.
  • Populate Folder feature now saves Practice Squad players.
  • Several minor bug fixes.
  • Updated rosters for Week 17 in the NFL.

Another major change in 2010.5 is me continuing to tweak the rosters. I likely made the largest roster revisions in this distribution than the two previous ones, I wanted to make everything just right now that all the final records and statistics were in. Some people gave concerns that the New England Patriots were too weak in the simulation, I have corrected their roster so they are worthy of the 14-2 record they earned. I also did major revisions on the Runningback, Fullback, Wide receiver, Offensive line, Kicker, and Punter positions. It may be my finest (and most accurate) rosters yet. Enjoy.
